What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that aims to correct the sagging and drooping of the breasts. Over time, factors such as aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can lead to loss of skin elasticity and breast tissue volume. As a result, breasts may sag or appear elongated, affecting self-confidence and body image. By removing excess skin, reshaping the breast tissue, and repositioning the nipple and areola, breast lift surgery achieves a more youthful breast appearance.

    Evaluation

Before you undergo a breast lift, you will have a complimentary consultation where you will discuss your concerns and expectations with the doctor. Dr. John Daliannoudis will review your medical history, evaluate your breast anatomy, and recommend the most appropriate technique. He will then take photos of your breasts and through a modern artificial intelligence program will show you what they will look like after surgery.

  • 02

    Preoperative preparation

When you decide to have the surgery, Dr. Daliannoudis will give you some pre-operative instructions, including restrictions on food, drink, and the use of certain medications, as well as some tests including a mammogram.

  • 03

    Anesthesia

Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, ensuring that you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

  • 04

    Incision placement

Incisions are made based on your chosen technique and anatomy, to minimise visible scars.

  • 05

    Tissue remodeling and repositioning

Excess skin is removed and the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to achieve a more youthful contour.

  • 06

Repositioning of the nipples and areola

The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more aesthetically pleasing position at breast level.

  • 07

    Closure of the incisions

Dr. Dalianoudis closes the incisions with sutures and will place a special compression bandage to aid in the healing process.

    Recovery and post-operative care

After a breast lift, proper post-operative care is vital for optimal healing and results. Here are some tips to help you have a more comfortable recovery:

You may experience mild to moderate discomfort and swelling, which can be managed with prescription painkillers and cold compresses.

Breast lift techniques

There are several techniques for breast lift surgery and the choice depends on the extent of sagging and the desired result. The four main types of breast lift techniques are as follows:

Crescent Lift

This is only used in cases of minimal sagging and is performed with a small crescent-shaped incision along the upper half of the areola, through which excess skin is removed in order to achieve a breast lift.

Periareolar lift

Used for mild to moderate sagging, with incisions made around the areola area to remove excess skin and reshape the breast tissue.

Vertical Lift

Used for moderate to severe sagging. It involves one incision around the outer edge of the areola and another that extends vertically from the bottom of the areola to the submandibular crease. It allows significant remodeling of the breast tissue.

Anchor lift

The method is suitable in case of significant breast laxity. It combines an incision around the areola area, extending vertically downwards to the breast crease, and another horizontal incision along the crease in the shape of an inverted tau. It offers the most complete reshaping and repositioning of the breast.
